AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn equestrian team's 'Going Pro' will feature alums throughout the school year, showcasing many past Tigers now finding success away from Auburn.

This week we're showcasing Maddie Spak! The Horsemanship rider earned two degrees from Auburn over four years and has been a part of the professional working world for a year. Enrolled as a full-time student last year, Spak also worked a full-time job as she pursued her master's degree.

In competition, Spak had an outstanding senior season in 2022-23. She was named the SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Year and was a first team NCEA All-American in the event.

Years Competed: 2019-2023
Major: "I graduated from Auburn with my bachelor's in psychology, master's in industrial-organizational psychology, as well as a graduate certificate in business analytics.

What are you currently doing?
"I am the Human Resources Coordinator for the Milwaukee Bucks. In my role, I primarily focus on recruiting for part-time roles and establishing connections that help diversify the talent that we are bringing into our organization."

Why did you choose this career path?
"I chose to pursue a career in the sports & entertainment industry because it was a great opportunity for me to still experience the joy of sports even though my athletic career had come to an end. Working in HR, I get the chance to connect with different people on a daily basis and it's extremely rewarding to feel like I can make a positive impact not only on the organization that I work for, but the community as well."

You were working pretty much full-time, while also finishing school and riding last season? How did you do that so well?
"I can't thank my support system enough for the amazing opportunity that I had to work full-time from Auburn. There were some days that were a bit hectic when I would have a morning workout, afternoon practice, homework, and "work" work to juggle, but my teammates and the HR team in Milwaukee were always incredibly understanding and helpful. There were days that my teammates were putting in extra work to help me get ready for practice and putting some of my tack away, or days that I would be doing interviews from the team room. My HR team was always checking in on me which made the first few months in a full-time role go as smooth as possible too. I am very thankful for those who have helped make that opportunity possible."

How did Auburn prepare you to be successful away from the Plains?
"Auburn has had a huge impact on my life away from the Plains. Auburn has helped me establish some lifelong connections but has also taught me to be comfortable outside of my comfort zone. The team taught me so much as well. Competing in a sport that works with animals, you have to develop patience, compassion, and resilience FAST."

What does the Auburn Family mean to you?
"The Auburn Family will always be special to me. The Auburn Family means unwavering support no matter what chapter we are in our lives."

Favorite moment or memory from your time on the team?
"There are so many memories that hold a special place in my heart. From a competition perspective, it was a great experience to host and win the SEC Championship at home. The crowd was absolutely incredible and made it even more special to win the championship in front of the Auburn Family. I don't think anything can beat the fun of traveling with the entire team, though."

Advice to current and future Auburn riders?
"Continue to surpass the standards that you set. Having a winning attitude, a willingness to learn, and being supportive to your teammates will take you a lot further than raw talent alone.
