As Auburn softball continues its fall season, new faces are making their presence known on The Plains. Each week, we'll spotlight one of the newcomers to the program that are looking to help the Tigers carry their 2023 success into a new season.
Transferring from Maryland after slugging her way to career best numbers, catcher/utility player Amelia Lech is a long way from Southern California. She's already put her power on display at her new home of Jane B. Moore Field, so we think the adjustment is going well.
Q: Why did you decide to continue your collegiate career at Auburn?
Lech: I transferred to Auburn because it felt like home immediately. I love the town, the gameday atmosphere, the alumni support, the facilities and the faculty. Everything about Auburn makes this place so special, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Q: What advice would you give younger athletes that want to play at the next level?
Lech: There are going to be a lot of ups and downs in your career, but never lose sight of who YOU are. Our sport does not define our worth.
Q: If Auburn could play in a softball tournament anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?
Lech: Softball and Greece sounds like a match made in heaven.
Q: What has been the highlight of your softball career thus far?
Lech: My first career home run being a grand slam in Mexico!
Q: What teammate(s) have helped you adjust since arriving at Auburn?
Lech: All the girls have had a crucial role in helping me adjust to the south. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such strong women every day.
Q: If you could trade places with any of your coaches for the day, who would you pick?
Lech: I'd want to be coach Dean, just so I could wear the hat.
Q: What HAS to be on your pregame playlist?

Q: What is your major? What are your career goals following softball?
Lech: I am a sociology major with a minor in sports coaching. I want to either work in nonprofit organizations or coach softball. I have been an ambassador for a nonprofit called Shatterproof that works with addiction stigma in the United State. I absolutely love working in social services.
Q: How is Auburn different from your hometown?
Lech: Auburn and Southern California are complete opposites, but the main difference is the beach being so far. I can drive 20 minutes to the beach from my hometown in California.
Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn Family about the upcoming season, what would it be?
Lech: Book a ticket now for the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
