No. 2 Auburn picks up 12-8 win over No. 6 Georgia

AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 2 Auburn equestrian team bested No. 6 Georgia on Friday, earning a 12-8 victory at the Auburn University Equestrian Center. The win moved the Tigers to 4-0 on the year and 1-0 in Southeastern Conference action.
 
"It was great victory today," head coach Jessica Braswell said. "So happy to get that first SEC win and the Auburn/Georgia rivalry is a big one to get. I'm so proud of how the team pushed to the end for every point."
 
The Tigers swept Most Outstanding Performer honors in front of a great home crowd.
 
"We had amazing fan support and I want to thank the Auburn Family for coming out and making this the best atmosphere," Braswell said.
 
Senior Ellie Ferrigno and freshman Avery Glynn picked up MOP honors in Fences and Flat, respectively. Sophomore Caroline Buchanan was honored in Reining, while freshman Broke Jolstad earned MOP in Horsemanship.
 
The Tigers opened up the day with a 7-3 lead after Flat and Reining.
 
The Flat corps put together a 4-1 showing vs. the Bulldogs on the Jumping Seat side. Graduate Ava Stearns led off with an 85-83 edge over Jordan Toering. The Bulldogs snagged the second point before junior Anna Marie Mayes downed her opponent, 86-78. Senior Ellie Ferrigno earned an 82-71 win and Glynn's MOP ride saw her score an 89 to beat Nora Andrews by 10 points.
 
Reining was led by a pair of seniors and a sophomore, going 3-2 overall. Senior Olivia Marino earned a 68 to take her point, while Buchanan secured MOP with a 70-69.5 edge over Cadence Eger to remain unbeaten. Senior Isabella Tesmer earned a 71.5 to extend her unbeaten streak for the point.
 
Fences went 3-2 vs. the Bulldogs in the second half of Jumping Seat action. Junior Sophee Steckbeck edged Tessa P. Brown, 86-85, to lead off the event. Stearns scored an 88 for her point and Ferrigno closed out it out with her MOP win, 90-86.
 
Jolstad led off Horsemanship with a 75-74 victory to take MOP. Sophomore Alexia Tordoff picked up the team's other point in the event, 73-71.
 
The Tigers host nationally-ranked South Carolina next Friday, October 27, at the Auburn University Equestrian Center. The two teams face off at 3 p.m. CT and admission is free.
