MONTEREY, Calif. — No. 3 Auburn men's golf opened the Cypress Point Classic with a loss to Pepperdine and a win versus No. 5 Georgia Tech in a pair of exhibition matches at Cypress Point Club.

Auburn fell 2-1 in round one's fourball alternate shot match against the Waves. Brendan Valdes & Reed Lotter provided the Tigers with a point following their 7&7 win over Kuvaas and Xu. J.M. Butler and Carson Bacha dropped their match 4&3, while the Alex Vogelsong and Jackson Koivun pairing fell 8&7.

The Tigers answered with a gritty bounce back win against the Yellow Jackets in the afternoon round. Valdes and Lotter continued to roll with another match win, this time 2&1. Butler and Bacha battled in a tight match but ultimately fell 1-down. Vogelsong and Koivun went toe-to-toe with Mao and Bratton. Their match ended in a tie. Auburn was granted the victory over Georgia Tech as the Tigers won more holes on the day.

Tuesday's final round consists of six singles matches. Auburn faces the winner of the Stanford-Illinois match, which is set to resume in the morning.
