As Auburn softball enters its fall season, new faces are making their presence known on The Plains. Each week, we'll spotlight each of the newcomers to the program that are looking to help the Tigers carry their 2023 success into a new season.
A true freshman from Covington, Georgia, Kyla Stroud is a graduate of Newton High School and is competing for a spot within the Tiger infield. Stroud is the second member of her family to wear an Auburn uniform. Her father Horace played football for the Tigers.
Q: Why did you decide to commit to Auburn softball?
Stroud: I've always been an Auburn baby. This is my home away from home! I love it here. The atmosphere is electric, and I would not want to be anywhere else.
Q: How old were you when you started playing softball? What are your earliest memories of playing softball?
Stroud: I started playing at the age of five. My earliest memory is when I was eight years old and being the best player. Every time I swung the bat it was a homerun and just feeling pure happiness.
Q: What jersey number are you wearing this season? Does it have any special meaning?
Stroud: I am wearing 36. Back in the old days, my dad played football here at Auburn and his number was 36! I just want to pay that love back to my dad because he is my best friend. He always goes out his way to help me and make me better. Being able to represent him every time I step on the field is the best feeling ever!
Q: What teammate(s) have helped you adjust since arriving at Auburn?
Stroud: Makayla Packer. She is the sister I never had, and I just love her so much. I am so glad I got to meet her because she is my very best friend! She welcomed me into Auburn with open arms. That's the most amazing feeling ever to know you have someone to lean on through the thick and thin!
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Stroud: I have to drink a Dr. Pepper.
Q: What HAS to be on your pregame playlist?
Stroud: Any song by Lil Baby!
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?
Stroud: Teleportation. I am not a fan of walking, running or driving. I would definitely want to teleport, so I can save time, energy and gas!
Q: If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you pick? Why?
Stroud: If I could have any animal as a pet, I would definitely have a pig. They are so cute and chill!
Q: What's one movie you can quote word for word? Why is it your favorite?
Stroud: The Princess and The Frog - without a doubt! It is the best movie hands down! It just brings me that comfort from watching it as a kid. It takes me back to the good ole days.
Q: What's on word you'd use to describe yourself on the field and one word to describe yourself off the field? Why?
Stroud: One word on the field to describe myself is selfless because I will give my all for my team no matter what! One word off the field is compassionate because I am busting my butt to be my best self . Also, I am here for any and everyone. I love to be around people and just bring joy to people!
Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn Family about the upcoming season, what would to be?
Stroud: Get ready for the thrill and excitement of Auburn softball because we are about to put on A SHOW!
