AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn concluded the first day of the Auburn Invite at the Yarbrough Tennis Center on Friday. The Tigers claimed two of their three doubles matches and won two singles matches.
"What we lacked in execution we made up for in how hard we competed," said Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley. "Improvement is never a steady climb, but playing free requires committing to long-term growth. When we embrace the journey, the valleys and the summits, we enjoy it a lot more."
In doubles, Adeline Flach and DJ Bennett played their first doubles paired together since January and defeated Wisconsin's Karolina Jacobson and Rosie Garcia Gross 6-1. The win marked Flach's fourth and Bennett's eighth doubles win of the season. Ali DeSpain and Ava Esposito Cogan also became a doubles team for the first time this season and defeated Olivia Dorner and Karly Friedland of Penn State 6-4.
Auburn faced Florida in six singles matches on Friday, claiming two. Selin Ovunc dominated Qavia Lopez 6-1, 6-1 in her fourth singles win of the season while Flach defeated Bente Spee in straight sets to pick up her third singles victory of the fall. Bennett, Cogan and Kaitlyn Carnicella all dropped close matches in three sets.
On Saturday, the Tigers will play singles at 10 a.m. CT followed directly by doubles. Live video of the matches from the Yarbrough Tennis Center will be available on AuburnTigers.com while live results can be found at wearecollegetennis.com.
