AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn freshman center Savannah Scott has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women's basketball, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Scott, a 6-4 freshman from Conway, Arkansas, put together a memorable first week as a college basketball player. Through the season's opening week, she leads the SEC in field goal percentage at .769 (20-of-26), is 10th in the SEC in scoring (16.7 ppg) and 11th in rebounding (8.3/game). She also leads Auburn in all three categories.
Her first career road game was an exclamation point on a stellar opening week when she recorded her first collegiate double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 76-56 win Sunday on the road at Rutgers; she was 8-of-10 from the field.
Scott also led the Tigers in scoring in their come-from-behind win over Louisiana-Lafayette Thursday at home, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. Her collegiate debut against Jacksonville State last Monday saw her post a 13-point, eight-rebound performance where she was 6-of-7 from the floor.
Scott is the 12th different Auburn player to be named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Auburn is back in action at home Friday night, Nov. 17, for their second straight non-conference test against a Power Five opponent as the California Golden Bears visit Neville Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. CT, and tickets are available at AUBTix.com.
