ORLANDO, Fla. – Auburn's Tyler Stice, Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai participated in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship that began on Monday after Stice qualified in the Singles Championships while Murgett and Dobai qualified for the Doubles Championship this season.
On Monday, Stice was matched with Texas' Eliot Spizziri, the top ranked singles player in the nation, and fell by a 6-2, 6-1 score. The Auburn senior finished the season with a 17-17 overall singles record and with his third consecutive first team All-SEC honor.
Due to rain and lighting delays on Tuesday, Finn Murgett and Raul Dobai's opening round match against No. 21 Justin Boulais and Robert Cash of Ohio State was moved to Wednesday afternoon. The Auburn duo earned a dominating 6-4, 6-4 two-set victory to advance to Thursday's round of 16.
After taking the first set over No. 12 Natan Rodrigues and Fabien Salle of Louisville, the Cardinals duo won the second set to force a tiebreaker. Murgett and Dobai ultimately dropped the close tiebreaker to fall 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) in the match and conclude their run for the title.
The top Auburn doubles team finished the season with a 12-9 overall record with nine victories over ranked opponents including then-No. 4 Will Grant and Axel Nefve of Florida.
