Barnes and Grauvogel lead Friday showing at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Auburn track & field graduate student Sanna Barnes took home gold in the women's high jump with an indoor personal best and sophomore Paula Grauvogel placed third in the pentathlon to lead the tigers during Friday's showing at the Vanderbilt Invitational. 

Barnes cleared 1.85m/6-0 on her seventh attempt to claim gold and set a PR. Barnes cleared 1.85m/6-0 on her seventh attempt to claim gold and set a PR for the second weekend in a row. Last weekend, Barnes delivered a 1.84m/6-0.5 clearance to finish first at the Harvey Glance Tide & Tiger Dual Meet. She passed the last PR she set last at the Harvey Glance Tide & Tiger Dual Meet (1.84m/6-0.5). Grauvogel ended the night with 3,675 points in the pentathlon. Her efforts were aided by a new personal best in the 800m (2:34.60). Sophomore Elise Heddens followed tightly behind in fourth place with 3,560 points. 

Three Auburn throwers are in finals after finishing inside the top five. Adrianna Adams led the pack in second with 17.47m/57-3 ¾. She will be joined by her teammates Mackenzie Patten and Megan Hague who finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.  

Sophomore John Leonard set two personal bests during the men's weight throw. His first PR was on his first throw. He then topped it on the very next throw (19.19/62-11 ½.  Leonard's previous best was set at the same meet a year ago. 

Day two of the Vanderbilt Invitational kicks off Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles. Live results can be found on pttiming.com. The meet will be streamed on SEC Network+.
