ATHENS, Ga. – The field of individuals were able to complete one of two rounds planned for Saturday at the Lady Bulldog Individual Championship in Athens, Georgia. Senior Anna Foster started her spring strong with a third-place finish in the event.
"We played nine holes in really nice conditions but then it went downhill from there," said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. "Anna played a really solid round of golf and hit 15 greens, which is really hard to do in mucky conditions. I think it was good for those girls to get a competitive round under their belts even though they were disappointed that the second 18 holes were cancelled. We are definitely ready for some warm sunshine!"
Foster, who began the round with a shotgun start on the eighth hole, recorded birdies on both of the back nine par-3s at UGA Golf Course to lead the tournament in par-3 scoring and finished 1-under on the day (71). Foster finished the 18-hole event just two shots behind the champion.
Katie Cranston recorded a top-15 finish for the first time this season, coming in a tie for 11th place. Cranston's round of 75 (+3) was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 18th hole, which was the only eagle recorded by any player in the field. The sophomore led the field in par-5 scoring during the event's only round, as she played them at 4-under.
In her second tournament of the 2023-24 campaign, Rachel Gourley fired a 4-over 76 on Saturday that included two birdies. Gourley finished the event second in par-5 scoring behind her teammate at 2-under. Redshirt sophomore Carys Worby carded a 78 (+6) in her fourth event of the season.
Auburn's first team event of the spring season will be the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico. The event will be played February 4-6.
