SEATTLE – No. 14 Auburn will begin its run at the 2024 ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Friday in Seattle. The event will span from Friday to Monday and be played at the Nordstrom Tennis Center and Seattle Tennis Club. This will mark Auburn's third consecutive appearance in the championships.
Teams will compete in the opening round on Friday, the quarterfinal round and consolation matches will be held on Saturday, the semifinals and additional consolation matches will take place on Sunday, and the finals will be held on Monday.
Auburn earned its bid to the prestigious event by defeating Denver and No. 15 Duke during ITA Kickoff Weekend in Durham last month. The team continued its momentum by sweeping a doubleheader at home against Texas Tech and South Alabama prior to making the trip to the West Coast.
In the most recent individual rankings from the ITA that were released on Wednesday, the Tigers have four singles players and two doubles teams represented. Fifth-year Carolyn Ansari remained in the top-15 in singles, coming in at No. 13. Ansari is the winner of three consecutive singles matches, including two ranked wins over 65th ranked Shavit Kimchi of Duke and 69th ranked Cristina Tiglea of Texas Tech.
The other Auburn players featured in the singles rankings are No. 43 DJ Bennett, No. 61 Ariana Arseneault and No. 104 Selin Ovunc. Ovunc and Bennett also moved from 30th to 10th in the doubles rankings. The new ranking marks a career-high doubles mark for Bennett.
The Tigers will begin the 16-team bracket-style tournament against third ranked Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. CT. at the Seattle Tennis Center. The Cowgirls hold a perfect 5-0 record this season, with wins over No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 12 Ohio State and No. 13 UCLA. Oklahoma State also has five singles players and two doubles teams represented in the ITA individual rankings that were released on Wednesday.
Friday's match will be the fifth all-time meeting between Auburn and Oklahoma State, with the two teams splitting the four matchups. Auburn won the most recent meeting 4-2 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament in 2021.
With a victory on Friday, the Tigers would extend their winning streak to five matches, mark the highest ranked win in program history, and advance the team to the quarterfinal round against either No. 9 Texas A&M or No. 10 Texas.
