BISHOP, Ga. – The No. 5 Auburn equestrian team dropped a road contest Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 6 Georgia, 11-7, in Bishop, Georgia at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
"I'm really proud of the effort today," head coach Jessica Braswell said. "The result wasn't what we wanted, but I saw improvement in some areas from last week. We will get back to work and are looking forward to finally being back at home."
Freshman Brooke Jolstad earned Most Outstanding Performer honors for Auburn (5-4, 1-3 SEC) in Horsemanship.
The two teams opened the meet with Reining and Flat and Georgia went into intermission with a 6-3 advantage.
Reining picked up two points from seniors Isabella Tesmer and Olivia Marino. Tesmer improved to 8-1-0 on the year with a 71-70.5 edge over UGA's Jax Bound. Marino bested her opponent, 70.5-70, for the Tigers.
Fifth year Ava Stearns secured Auburn's lone point in Flat, defeating Nora Andrews, 80-74.
Horsemanship bested the Bulldogs in the second half of competition, 3-2. Leading the way was Jolstad's MOP performance as she topped her opponent, 75-71.5. Sophomore Caroline Fredenburg downed Grace Himes, 74.5-73, while freshman Sydney Swallom earned a 74.5-71 win.
Junior Sophee Steckbeck improved to 9-0-0 on the year in Fences, downing Emma Reichow with an 83-78 win.
Auburn returns to the Auburn University Equestrian Center for a tri-meet with Dartmouth and UT Martin. The Tigers and Dartmouth will face off at 3 p.m. on February 16 and will go against UT Martin on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m. CT.
