DALLAS – Junior right-handed pitcher Will Cannon was named to the preseason watch list for the 19th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced this week.

Cannon, who was named to the midseason watch list in 2023, is one of 12 relievers from the Southeastern Conference named to the watch list, the most of any conference.

The Phenix City native posted a 3-2 record with a 4.41 ERA and led the team with five saves in his first year on The Plains. His five saves were tied for fifth most in the league, and his 15 games finished were tied for fourth.

Cannon tied for the team lead with 23 appearances a year ago, 20 of which came in relief, and struck out 44 batters in 49.0 innings. He went 2-0 with a 4.25 ERA and earned a pair of saves in SEC play.

Cannon and the No. 15 Tigers begin the 2024 season with a three-game series vs. Eastern Kentucky starting Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.
