BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the first time of his career, Auburn junior center/forward Johni Broome (Plant City, Fla.) garnered SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday.

The preseason All-SEC First Team and John R. Wooden National Player of the Year Award candidate averaged 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 blocks leading the Tigers to another 2-0 week in conference play with wins over Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.

He recorded his 55th career double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots versus the Commodores on Jan. 31 at Neville Arena. Broome followed that performance up with 15 points, nine rebounds, a career-high seven assists and three blocks to hand the Rebels their first home loss of the season on Feb. 3 in Oxford, Miss.

Broome is on a 13-game double-digit scoring streak which includes five double-double performances during that stretch. He currently ranks second among active NCAA Division I career leaders in blocks (315) and fifth in double-doubles (55).

It was his third weekly career honor after being named twice as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, while at Morehead State from 2020-22.
