AUBURN, Ala. – Junior Gabby McLaughlin of the No. 14 Auburn gymnastics team was named the SEC Specialist of the Week, the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday.
The weekly honor is the first for any Tiger this season and the first of McLaughlin's career.
The Aliso Viejo, California product has been one of Auburn's top performers so far this season, having eight scores of 9.9 or better between bars, beam and floor.
This past Friday, McLaughlin captured two event titles for the Tigers and helped the team reach a season-best 197.425 in their quad meet win in Neville Arena.
Highlighting her night was a career high on floor as McLaughlin took the event title with a 9.95. The floor win was the first of her career and the individual score was her fourth straight 9.9 or better in the event.
McLaughlin added a 9.925 on beam to win the event crown, earning her second beam title of the season.
McLaughlin and the Tigers host No. 7 Alabama on Friday, February 9, in Neville Arena. The two teams will face off at 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
