AUBURN, Ala. – Postseason awards keep on rolling in as Auburn junior men's basketball forward/center Johni Broome (Plant City, Fla.) has been honored on the All-America Third Team by The Sporting News on Tuesday.
Broome becomes the 14th All-American in program history on 16 occasions – the third to be recognized as one of the top players in the country by The Sporting News next to Chuck Person (second team) in 1984-85 and Jabari Smith (second team) in 2021-22.
A two-time All-SEC player (first team in 2023-24 and second team in 2022-23), SEC All-Defensive Team member and a finalist for the John R. Wooden and National Player of the Year Award, Broome is one of the NCAA Division I career active leaders with 1,956 points, 1,167 rebounds, 336 blocks, 100 steals, 112 double-figure scoring games and 57 double-doubles to date.
This season, he became just the second player in program history to be named the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week. A SEC Academic Honor Roll student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts, Broome is the only player currently ranked in the Top 10 in scoring (9th, 16.3 ppg) and rebounding (2nd, 8.5 rpg) in the SEC.
He is currently on a 22-game double-digit scoring streak and has 13 games with three-or-more blocked shots. Broome ranks seventh on Auburn's career blocks list with 149 in two years on The Plains.
For the season, he is shooting 24-of-67 (35.8 percent) from long range and ranks second in the SEC with a 54.5 field-goal percentage, second in blocks per game (2.29), first in defensive rebounds (6.00) and eighth in offensive rebounds per game (2.45).
