AUBURN, Ala. – Looking to secure its first Southeastern Conference series win of the season, No. 25 Auburn softball (15-6-1, 2-4 SEC) heads to Davis Diamond for a three-game series at No. 12 Texas A&M (23-5, 5-1 SEC).
"It's another tough weekend against a highly ranked opponent in a hostile environment," said head coach Mickey Dean. "We're going to take it one pitch at a time and one game at a time. We've jumped on the video to prepare for this weekend. We're continuing to work on tiny adjustments. If we can execute those, we're in a position to compete."
Auburn opens the series in College Station on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Chelsea Reber and Donna Conrad will have the call on the SEC Network+. The middle game of the series is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT and will air on the SEC Network with Chuckie Kempf and Danielle Lawrie in the booth. Sunday's finale is set for 1 p.m. CT on the SEC Network+. Conrad will be joined by Will Johnson on the call.
All three games can be heard locally on WEGL 91.1 FM and the Auburn Sports Network as JJ Jackson has radio coverage from College Station.
Auburn leads the all-time series versus Texas A&M with a 16-9 record, which includes a 5-7 mark in games played in College Station. The Tigers have won four straight games against the Aggies and have taken wins in eight of the last nine meetings.
The Tigers are searching for their fourth consecutive series win over Texas A&M. Auburn's last series loss came in 2018 as the Aggies swept three games in College Station.
Texas A&M sits on top of the SEC standings with its 5-1 record. The Aggies swept South Carolina at Davis Diamond to open conference play before taking two games at Mississippi State last weekend. The Aggies are coming off midweek action after dropping a 3-4 game at Texas State on Wednesday.
Auburn is also coming off midweek tilt against an in-state opponent as the Tigers took down Troy 4-3 on Tuesday in a dramatic 10-inning affair. After setting the program record for career wins in Sunday's win versus No. 20 Arkansas, Penta set the program record for career starts with her 106th at Troy.
Penta ranks second in the country with 118 strikeouts and third in shutouts with six. She is five strikeouts shy of becoming just the second Tiger in program history to record 800 in their collegiate career. Penta also leads the pitching staff in wins behind her 8-4 record and holds a team-low 1.32 earned run average.
Heating up in the month of March, Anna Wohlers has been the heart of the Auburn offense as of late. In her last 11 starts, Wohlers is hitting .444 behind 12 hits, including one double and two home runs, and has totaled nine RBI. For the season, Wohlers leads the team in batting average (.370), hits (20), runs scored (14) and on-base percentage (.478).
