AUBURN, Ala. - No. 11 Auburn is set to face a familiar course this Monday through Wednesday during the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina. This will mark the 11th season that the Tigers have competed in the event and Golf Channel will be providing coverage of the tournament for the second straight year.
"Long Cove Club is one of those courses where you have to have to be mentally 100 percent," said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. "You can't let your guard down for a shot or the course will bite you. It is a Pete Dye golf course with a lot of penalty areas, waste bunkers that come into play and the greens are quick. It's a championship golf course with a championship field."
The field this year includes No.2 Wake Forest, No. 4 LSU, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Texas and No. 9 Oregon. The Tigers are coming off a successful week against a competitive field in their last event, when they finished second at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida. The team fired a 866 (+3) at the tournament, highlighted by an opening round 6-under 282.
Megan Schofill had the best finish for Auburn, placing in a tie for 17th on the individual leaderboard after carding a 1-over 217. Schofill continues to lead the team in scoring average this season with a 70.93 as well as par-4 scoring and par-5 scoring with averages of 3.94 and 4.78, respectively.
Auburn will begin the opening round at 8:20 a.m. CT and teeing off the 10th tee at Long Cove Club on Monday alongside players from Arkansas and Arizona State.
