AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn fifth-year senior Finn Murgett has been named SEC Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. On senior weekend, the Auburn veteran came up with two crucial singles wins and an upset doubles victory.
On Friday against Texas A&M, Murgett and Raul Dobai dominated the tiebreaker over No. 11 Giulio Perego and Togan Tokac in a 7-6 (0) win to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers. Murgett then came back from dropping the opening set to defeat No. 37 JC Roddick to clinch the win over the Aggies. Roddick withstood two Murgett service games to force a tiebreaker in the third set, but Murgett won four consecutive points in the tiebreaker to close out the match and the team victory.
On Sunday, Murgett continued his dominance on the singles court by taking down LSU's Alessio Vasquez in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 on court two. The Tigers went on to win the match by a 4-1 score.
This season, Murgett has posted a 17-3 dual match singles record and an 11-11 dual match doubles record.
Murgett has become the first Auburn player to earn SEC Player of the Week honors this season.
Auburn will begin the SEC Tournament as a 4-seed and play its first match on Friday at 6 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
