BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following an unprecedented show of dominance at the Mossy Oak Collegiate, three members of the Auburn men's golf team were awarded by the Southeastern Conference with weekly honors. J.M. Butler and Brendan Valdes were named Co-Golfers of the Week while Jackson Koivun earned Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The trio have won conference weekly honors a combined 16 times, led by Koivun with eight, all of which have come this season.
Earlier in the week, the top-ranked Tigers cruised to a 34-shot victory at Mossy Oak and were led by Butler, Valdes and Koivun, who swept the top three spots on the individual leaderboard. The win was also the squad's fourth in a row.
Butler and Valdes turned in identical scores, shooting 68-69-67 (-12) to top the 83-man field. It was the third win in the career of Butler and his second in three events. Valdes picked up his second career medalist showing, his first since the fall of 2022.
Koivun's third-place performance signifies his eighth consecutive top-five placement. He shot 66-69-71 (-10). The Chapel Hill, North Carolina native has now surpassed Brandon Mancheno's 2017-18 school record for subpar rounds by a freshman with 21 total.
All three men are set to return next week, April 24-28, as the Tigers look to make some noise at the 2024 SEC Championship hosted by Seaside Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
