AUBURN, Ala. – Hitting the road for the final time in conference play, Auburn softball (24-15-1, 6-12 SEC) treks to Ole Miss (25-22, 3-15 SEC) for a three-game Southeastern Conference series at the Ole Miss Softball complex.
"Ole Miss has some aggressive hitters," said head coach Mickey Dean. "We're going to have to work ahead to keep them in check. At the plate, we're looking to attack early in counts. We tend to watch a lot of first-pitch strikes. We want to be more aggressive in that area."
The series begins Friday at 5 p.m. CT on the SEC Network. Courtney Lyle and Danielle Lawrie will have the call. Saturday is slated for a 3 p.m. CT start on the SEC Network+ as Jake Hromada and Missy Dickerson take over in the booth. Sunday's finale is set for 12 p.m. CT with Lyle and Lawrie returning with coverage on the SEC Network.
JJ Jackson will have the radio call this weekend on WEGL 91.1 FM and the Auburn Sports Network.
Auburn has won four of the last five games in the series, including earning a series win at Jane B. Moore Field last season and taking down the Rebels at the 2023 SEC Tournament. The Tigers hold a 44-23 record in the series with a 25-6 mark in Oxford.
Ole Miss stands at the bottom of the SEC standings with its 3-15 record. The Rebels took two wins off LSU in Baton Rouge in their lone SEC series win of the season. Last weekend, Ole Miss traveled to Texas A&M with the Aggies sweeping the series. The Rebels are coming off a 7-2 midweek victory over in-state foe Southern Miss.
The Tigers are looking to win their second consecutive road SEC series after taking down No. 6 LSU two weekends ago. In its last SEC outing, Auburn prevented the sweep with a 4-1 upset win over No. 24 Kentucky on Monday night. In what the team deems "championship games," Auburn has won game three in all but one of its SEC series.
Finding momentum late in the season, Shelby Lowe tossed her second complete game effort in SEC play this season to earn the win over Kentucky. Tossing over 120 pitches in the contest, it was the most pitches she's thrown in a single game since her freshman campaign. In her last three starts, Lowe has picked up two wins and has allowed just two earned runs in 18.0 innings.
One of three Tigers to start every game this season, Anna Wohlers continues to pace the Tiger offense down the stretch with her .327 batting average. She leads the team in hits (34), runs scored (26) and doubles (8) while holding a .981 OPS.
Holding one of the highest fielding percentages in the country, Auburn's defense has had it on lock as of late with just three errors over the last 13 games. Auburn leads the league and stands 11th in the country with a .977 fielding percentage.
