OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Following a noteworthy showing on the course and in the classroom during the 2023-24 season, Auburn golfers Carson Bacha and Reed Lotter have been named Cobalt Golf All-American Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Thursday.
Bacha earns All-American Scholar status for the second consecutive season while Lotter is bestowed with the honor for the first time in his career. The Tigers have now produced 26 All-American Scholars in 15 seasons under head coach Nick Clinard.
To be eligible for an All-American Scholar nomination, an individual must meet the sophomore classification both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA or NJCAA. In addition, the student-athlete must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 (DI), and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
For the 2023-24 academic year, Bacha posted a 3.45 GPA while pursuing his undergraduate degree in finance, earning himself a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. On the course, he recorded a 71.44 stroke average alongside four top-10 finishes, 16 rounds below par and 126 birdies. The York, Pennsylvania native earned a start in the Tigers’ lineup in eight of their 10 record-smashing victories last season.
Bacha also provided the squad with crucial match-play points in its conference and national title runs, defeating his opponents from No. 11 Arkansas and No. 2 Vanderbilt in the semifinals and finals of the SEC Championship and his opponent from No. 9 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
Lotter, another member of the latest SEC Academic Honor Roll, earned a 3.31 GPA in his pursuit of a degree in marketing. Athletically, he posted a 72.00 stroke average over 30 rounds of competition. He added seven top-20 finishes, 13 subpar rounds and a career-best 107 birdies. Lotter was featured in the lineup for two of the Tigers’ wins last season – the SEC Fall Preview and the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational.
The Auburn men’s golf team returns to action in its first tournament since capturing a national title Sept. 9-10 at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.
