EUGENE, Ore. – Auburn alum Madi Malone finished eighth in the women’s hammer throw at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, June 21-30.

Competing in her second U.S. Olympic trials, Malone opened things up on day one with an 11th place finish in the first round of hammer throw. Her mark of 66.01m was good enough to earn her a spot in finals. Malone’s best attempt came from her second toss where she threw 67.25m to place eighth overall.

The Tigers had four current and three past student-athletes competed in seven individual events.

Auburn alum Sanaa Barnes punched her ticket to the women’s high jump final after three perfect jumps in the qualifying round. Her mark of 1.83m earned her a five-way tie for first place.

In the finals, the Northlake, Texas native successfully cleared 1.78m and 1.83m on her first attempt. She established a new lifetime best in the event, clearing 1.88m to finish fifth overall.

Junior Simone Johnson and graduate student Amy Warren competed in the qualifying round of triple jump on the first day of competition. The former placed 23rd with a mark of 12.41m while the latter jumped 12.37m to finish 25th. The triple jump duo did not advance to finals.

Graduate student Maura Huwalt placed 18th in the first round of women’s discus throw (55.00m). Huwalt did not advance to the final round of the event.

On the men’s side, freshman Ja’Kobe Tharp raced in the first round of the 110m hurdles where he finished fourth in his heat with a time of 13.37. His time earned him a spot in the semifinals; however he withdrew from the competition.
