AUBURN, AL – A new era of Auburn softball is beginning under the direction of co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux and with them are eight new Tigers on The Plains looking to help make a mark in year one.
An Alabama native, Georgia Lessmann began her career at Iowa before transferring to Auburn over the summer. An outfielder from Enterprise, Lessmann has ties to program as her older sister, Olivia, served as a graduate assistant two seasons ago. Gifted with speed, Lessmann looks to join the outfield rotation and add some diversity in the lineup.
Q: How old were you when you started playing softball? What are your earliest memories of the sport?
Lessmann: I started playing softball when I was six. I have memories of going to watch my older sister’s (Olivia) games and wanting to play my own games.
Q: Who has influenced your softball career the most?
Lessmann: My dad, Corey.
Q: What has been the highlight of your softball career to this point?
Lessmann: Hitting a grand slam to put my team in the lead during the high school area tournament and transferring to play at Auburn.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
Lessmann: To trust God’s timing and his plan for your life.
Q: Is there any athlete that you try to model your game after?
Lessmann: Caitlin Lowe.
Q: Why did you decide to continue your collegiate career at Auburn?
Lessmann: A combination of the championship culture, the coaches and the location.
Q: How have your new teammates helped you adjust since arriving on campus?
Lessmann: They have welcomed me with open arms and immediately treated me like part of the family.
Q: How would you describe the coaching staff at Auburn?
Lessmann: Incredibly wise, competitive and they genuinely care for each and every one of us.
