BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – One tournament into his sophomore season on The Plains, Jackson Koivun is already collecting honors as he was named the Southeastern Conference’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
At last week’s season-opening tournament, the Inverness Intercollegiate, Koivun shot 63-65-70 (-9) to cruise to his third career medalist performance. His 14 birdies tied for tops in the 85-man field.
For Koivun, the recognition marks his ninth career conference weekly honor. As a freshman, he was awarded Golfer of the Week on three occasions and Freshman of the Week on five occasions. He went on to earn both SEC Freshman and Golfer of the Year at the end of the 2023-24 season.
As a team, No. 1 Auburn finished the Inverness in second place at 2-over, four shots behind No. 6 Virginia who captured the team title. The Tigers return to action later this week at the Valero Texas Collegiate at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 21 – Monday, Sept. 23.
