NORMAN, Okla. – No. 6 Women’s golf captured a second-place finish on Monday at the rain-shortened Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma. After the weather cancelled the second round on Sunday, the tournament was shortened to two rounds. The Tigers carded a 280 (E) in Monday’s second round to finish the event at 7-under (553) and two strokes behind tournament champion Houston.

“Proud of our ladies for the fight as the ball striking from some was a struggle, but their short games were amazing,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the event. “Anna (Davis) had another great tournament, and it was good to see Casey (Weidenfeld) miss qualifying for the first tournament and bounce back with a top-5.

“Disappointed to not get the win, but Houston played well. The conditions were ripe for a low round, we just didn’t get it done. We always talk about having a chance to win and we had that opportunity.”

Anna Davis carded just the third round of 64 (-6) ever turned in by a Tiger in the opening round on Saturday, which tied the lowest single round in program history. Davis shot a 1-over 71 in the second round and notched her second runner-up individual finish in as many tournaments after finishing 5-under for the event (135).

Redshirt junior Casey Weidenfeld recorded her third career top-5 finish with a couple rounds of 2-under (68) in the tournament. Weidenfeld recorded four birdies and was in second place individually until a late bogey on No. 16.

Junior Katie Cranston made the turn in round two at 3-under par after recording three birdies on the opening nine. Cranston finished the day 1-over (71) and in a tie for 19th place individually with a 36-hole score of 140 (E).

Redshirt junior Carys Worby provided her second counting score of the tournament with a 70 (E) on Monday that included a couple of birdies. Worby’s shot 2-over for the event and finished in a tie for 33rd on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Rachel Gourley bounced back after a difficult opening round with a second round 71 (+1). Gourley improved her position 12 spots individually from the beginning of the round to a tie for 68th place.

Auburn will have a short break before its next tournament, the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah, which will be played Oct. 7-8 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
