AUBURN, Ala. – Chris Williams was elevated to associate head coach of the Auburn men’s golf program after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach and leading the Tigers to their first national title at the end of the 2024 season.
“It’s no secret that coach Williams has been instrumental to our successes these past few years,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “He’s an incredible coach, recruiter and driver of culture, but more importantly, he’s an incredible person. He is absolutely deserving of the opportunity to help lead our program to greatness as an associate head coach.”
“I’d like to thank Auburn, coach Clinard and our administration for this opportunity to continue impacting our student-athletes at a high level,” Williams said. “My passion is to help our players reach their goals and achieve dreams they didn’t even know were possible. Thankfully, I get to keep doing this while representing the brand that I have grown to love and respect so much.”
Over the last three seasons, Clinard and Williams have partnered to produce 20 team wins, 10 individual medalists, 10 All-SEC players, nine PING All-Region players, six All-Americans, an SEC Championship and the 2024 NCAA Championship.
Following the 2023-24 season, Williams was named the recipient of the Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award. He became just the third SEC assistant to win the award since 2016.
Known for his elite recruiting abilities, Williams was a major factor in the signing of WAGR No. 2 Jackson Koivun, who produced one of the most decorated seasons in the history of the sport last year as the first man to capture the Haskins, Hogan, Mickelson and Nicklaus Awards in one sweep.
Last fall, Auburn inked the No. 3 signing class in the nation with top-ranked prospects Billy Davis and Tyler Spielman. The Tigers are projected to usher in yet another top-three signing class this November.
No. 1 Auburn returns to action next week, Sept. 30 – Oct. 1, as the Tigers head to Fort Worth, Texas for the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational.
