BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Dialing up stellar performances to help Auburn take down No. 12 Kentucky and rival Alabama, Grace Havlicek has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida product was both an offensive and defensive powerhouse in the Tigers’ historic win over No. 12 Kentucky. Havlicek was nearly perfect on Friday, swinging for six kills with zero errors on her nine attempts for an astounding .667 hitting percentage. Defensively, she dialed up a career-best 10 blocks, including one solo effort. Auburn’s win over the Wildcats was its first since 2010.
Two days later, Havlicek was a force at the net once more. She added six more rejections to her season total, helping the Orange and Blue to its eighth straight victory over rival Alabama.
In four matches, Havlicek is averaging 1.75 blocks per set to go along with a .476 hitting percentage.
The recognition is the first such honor for Havlicek.
Head coach Brent Crouch and the Tigers are back in action on Friday, Oct. 4 against Georgia. First serve is slated for 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.
