CHARLESTON, S.C. – Auburn leads the Cougar Classic by a stroke over second place LSU after firing an opening round 286 (+2) and a second round 278 (-6) on Monday at Yeaman’s Hall Club in Charleston, South Carolina. Sophomore Anna Davis is the tournament’s individual leader by one shot with a 36-hole score of 136 (-6).

“A lot of great stories today from rounds one and two,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said at the conclusion of play. “Anna Davis is playing very solid golf. Katie (Cranston) has continued her solid ball striking that we saw pre-tournament. Rachel (Gourley) had such a rough start but dug deep to right the ship after the first few holes to shoot under par and help the team.

"Balma (Dávalos Guaita) competed in her first college tournament and it was full of challenges, but she also came back strong in the second round. Carys (Worby) had an unusual day with the putter and I know she will be excited to compete for a trophy tomorrow. Proud of our young group!”

Davis started off her season red hot, with an opening round of 4-under (67) that included five birdies. The sophomore then followed that with another round under par, a 69 (-2). Davis holds the individual lead over Edit Hertzman of LSU.

Junior Katie Cranston also started her season with a round under par, shooting 70 (-1) in her opening round after overcoming a couple of early bogeys. She then carded another 1-under 70 for a 36-hole score of 140 and is inside the individual top-10 in a tie for ninth place.

Freshman Balma Dávalos Guaita kicked off her collegiate career with a 4-over 75 in the opening round, but came back by firing a 70 (-1) that included three birdies. Dávalos Guaita is in a tie for 30th place individually. Junior Rachel Gourley bounced back after a difficult opening round by shooting 2-under (69) in her second round. She rose 32 spots on the leaderboard after the first round and sits in a tie for 49th at 5-over for the event (147).

Redshirt junior Carys Worby contributed a counting score in the first round, carding a 3-over 74. She is currently in a tie for 69th at 9-over for the tournament (151).

Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. CT. Live scoring of the final round will be available online at scoreboard.clippd.com.
