AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn track and field team returns to competition at the Harvey Glance Tide & Tiger Dual Meet in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex Thursday. Kickstarting the action for the 2024 indoor season will be the women's weight throw at 5:00 p.m. CT, and the running events start at 6:15 p.m. CT with the women's 60m hurdles.

Named after the late Harvey Glance who passed away in June of 2023. The event signifies the first-ever dual meet between Auburn and Alabama. Glance was a three-time Olympic gold medal sprinter winner who competed at Auburn from 1976 to 1979 as a student-athlete and returned later as a head coach. Glance also coached the Alabama track and field program from 1997 until he retired in 2011. He was an assistant coach in 2003 for Team USA and coached the 2006 World Junior Team. Glance was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and received the Congressional Gold Medal of Freedom in 2008.

Led by second-year head coach Leroy Burrell, the Tigers are set to open the season with a head-to-head battle against the Tide, marking the first Iron Bowl on the track.

"This is going to be about competition," Burrell said. "Who crossed the line first. Who is going to jump the furthest or the highest. Who scored the most points for this team. There is going to be a clear and defined winner."

Leading the Auburn men and women in the season opener for the 2024 indoor season are jumper Sanaa Barnes, sprinter Favour Ashe, and thrower Kyle Moison.

"I want a complete and full-out competitive effort, from the first event to the last," Burrell said. "We start off early with the pole vault. It's a strong event for us on the women's side. I want to see them put out a solid effort and compete and put up some good marks. Fight until the end."

All Running events will be scored by section vs. time. Both genders will be scored separately but combined at the end of the meet to determine the overall champion.
