BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A key factor in Auburn’s four-set win over Mississippi State on Sunday, Kalei Edson’s performance has landed the rookie SEC Freshman of the Week honors the conference announced on Monday.
The Centralia, Illinois product is one-half of the two-headed setting monster alongside Peyton Dunn. The pair directed an offense that hit .359 against the Bulldogs, including two sets north of .500.
Edson scooped up 22 assists across her four sets of work along with eight digs. It was her three aces, however, that proved the most influential. All three came during a 9-0 run in the fourth set with Edson at the service line to effectively put the match to bed.
Monday marks the first weekly award for Edson and it’s the second conference weekly honor for the Tigers this season. Grace Havlicek also earned Freshman of the Week prestige after her performance against Kentucky and Alabama during the opening weekend of SEC play.
Head coach Brent Crouch and the Auburn Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 looking for their ninth-straight win over Alabama. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT inside Foster Auditorium.
