AUBURN, Ala. – As a reward for being one of the final four teams standing at last season’s NCAA Championship, No. 2 Auburn men’s golf has been invited to conclude the fall slate at the prestigious East Lake Cup this week, Oct. 28-30, at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Ending your fall at East Lake is always a treat,” Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. “It’s a reward for wonderful postseason play, but it also serves as a great opportunity to end the year by making a big statement. Only the elite get to play at East Lake, and we want to show that we are the best of the best.”
The Tigers will compete alongside No. 11 Georgia Tech, No. 12 Florida State and RV Ohio State. A single stroke-play round on Monday will determine the seedings in which the teams will face off in the succeeding matches. Following Tuesday’s pair of matches, the winning teams will face off in Wednesday’s championship match. The losing squads will also play each other in a consolation match on Wednesday.
Making the trip to Atlanta are seniors Carson Bacha, Ryan Eshleman and Brendan Valdes as well as sophomores Josiah Gilbert and Jackson Koivun. Bacha, Valdes, Gilbert and Koivun were all part of the postseason fivesome that captured the program’s first national title last spring.
This week marks the program’s second appearance at East Lake. Auburn won the 2018 East Lake Cup with a 4-1 semifinal victory over Duke and a 4-1 finals defeat of Alabama.
Live coverage of the tournament can be found on Golf Channel from 2 to 5 p.m. CT during all three days.
