MEDINAH, Ill. – Auburn sophomore Anna Davis recorded 11 birdies over the course of two rounds on Monday and is fourth on the leaderboard at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois. Davis carded rounds of 67 (-5) and 69 (-3) and is two strokes behind the tournament leader, Lexanne Halama of Illinois.

As a team, Auburn finished the opening round 2-under (286) before catching fire in the second round and firing a 5-under 283. The Tigers are in fifth place in the 15-team field at 7-under through 36 holes and ten strokes back of tournament leader Houston.

“Medinah was set up for scoring with perfect weather and excellent course conditions,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “We just couldn’t take advantage of par 5s with too many bogeys. Anna Davis has played very solid and she will have another chance to win! Would like to see a great finishing round tomorrow.”

Davis, who recorded a runner-up finish in each of her first two tournaments of the season, began with birdies on three of her first four holes of the day. She ultimately finished the opening round with six birdies and recorded an additional five in the second round. Davis tied Halama for the lowest round of the day at 5-under.

Redshirt junior Casey Weidenfeld carded two rounds of 1-under (71) on Monday and is in a tie for 21st on the leaderboard at 142 (-2). Weidenfeld has now shot under par in each of her first four rounds of the season after two rounds of 68 (-2) at the Schooner Fall Classic.
