AUBURN, Ala. – Romanian talent Eva Ionescu has signed with Auburn women’s tennis, head coach Jordan Szabo announced on Wednesday. Ionescu will join the Tigers in the fall of 2025.
“We are excited about Eva joining the Tigers in fall 2025,” said Szabo. “She is one of the best junior players in the world and has already had great professional success. Eva is really just scratching the surface with her tennis. She will fit in with our players and her goals of being a professional players align perfectly with our program’s goals.
“I appreciate her trusting Auburn and our coaching staff with her development and we are ready to get working with her.”
Ionescu achieved a career high ITF Junior Ranking of 115th in July and has six ITF Juniors doubles titles to her name, including two this year and three in 2022. She holds a career-high Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking of 874 as well as a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 10.52.

In 2021, Ionescu finished as a singles finalist at the U14 Tennis Europe Junior Masters and in 2022, she received the bronze medal in girls singles at the European Youth Olympics Festival (EYOF) hosted by the European Olympic Committees. Ionescu also qualified for Junior Wimbledon in July.
Ionescu will come to the Plains from Alexandria, Romania, where she attends high school at Liceul Alexandru Ghica.
