Six Tigers secure all-region cross country honors

Following success performances at the 2024 NCAA South Regional last Friday in Tallahassee, Florida, six Tigers earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honors, the office announced Monday.

AUBURN, Ala. - Following successful performances at the 2024 NCAA South Regional last Friday in Tallahassee, Florida, six Tigers earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honors, the office announced Monday.  

Freshman Brenda Jepchirchir and Nickson Chebii, sophomore Max Hardin, junior Gené Coetzee and seniors Ryan Kinnane and Carson Bedics were awarded USTFCCA All-Region status.  

Athletes earned the distinction of All-Region by finishing in the top 25 at one of the nine regional sites.  

The men finished fifth with 143 points while the women took eighth with 229 points. The men delivered their second top five finish in the last three years and the lowest point total at regionals since 2014. The women had their best team finish at regionals since 2017. 

Leading the women in the fourth consecutive meet, Jepchirchir clocked a time of 20:16.00 in the 6k to finish 11th overall.  

Racing in her third south regional, Coetzee had the best finish of her career, crossing the line in 14th place (20:19.00)  

As they’ve done all season, Chebii and Kinnane led the way for the men in the 10k race. The duo claimed top 10 spots in the 10k. 

Competing for the first time at this distance, Chebii finished eighth with a time of 29:55.80.  

Making his last NCAA South Regional appearance, Kinnane crossed the line right after Chebii, coming in ninth (30:07.80). 

Competing in his second regionals, Hardin put together a solid outing, crossing the line in 22nd place (30:41.20). Bedics rounded out the top 25, crossing the line in 30:47.80.
