AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn junior Billy Blaydes and freshman Alex Frusina will take part in the ITA South Sectional Singles Championship, which will be played Thursday through Sunday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Florida. Both Tigers will be playing for bids to the NCAA Singles Championship that will take place later in the month.
Six singles players will receive bids to the NCAA Singles Championship through the tournament. All four main draw semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners will punch their tickets to the singles championship. Billy Blaydes has already earned a spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship after he and partner Will Nolan claimed the doubles title at the ITA Southern Regional Championships last month.
Blaydes will enter the event with a 6-4 singles record this fall and coming off of a singles quarterfinal appearance at ITA Regionals. Frusina, who is in his first fall of collegiate tennis, holds a 5-1 singles record.
The singles portion of the event features a field of 32 players in the main draw. The first round of singles will be played on Thursday, with the second round and the first consolation round matches being played on Friday. Saturday will feature the main draw quarterfinals as well as the consolation quarterfinals and consolation semifinals. The event will conclude on Sunday with the singles main draw semifinals followed by the main draw finals and consolation finals.
