Ferrigno, Tordoff named SEC Riders of the Month

AUBURN, Ala. – Graduate student Ellie Ferrigno and junior Alexia Tordoff of the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team were named SEC Riders of the Month for October, the Southeastern Conference office announced Thursday.

Ferrigno earned recognition for her performances on the Flat, picked up the second conference honor in the event of her career. Tordoff was recognized for her efforts in Horsemanship, earning the first monthly award in her career in the event. 

Ferrigno put together a 3-0-0 mark on the Flat in October, winning one Most Outstanding Performer honor. She finished with a 10-point margin of victory average and two of her three wins came on the road. 

The Newtown, Connecticut product started tings off with an 85-81.5 win at No. 7 South Carolina (Oct. 11), winning MOP and having a meet-high overall score. She followed with a huge win at home vs. No. 4 SMU (Oct. 19), scoring a season-best 92.5 points to win by 16.5 points.

The last meet of the month had her pick up another win on the road, scoring a 78 and defeating her No. 10 UT Martin (Oct. 26) opponent by 10. 

Tordoff, of Powell, Ohio, also finished 3-0-0 in October, earning two MOPs in Horsemanship and averaging a 76 between the three meets. 

She led off the month with a big win on the road, taking MOP at South Carolina with a 74.25. She defeated her Gamecock opponent by six points and helped the Tigers sweep South Carolina in Horsemanship. 

Tordoff followed with a 76-25-74 win against SMU and her score was the highest of the day in the event. She closed out the month with another MOP performance on the road, scoring a then-season best 77.5 to defeat her opponent by five points. 

The top-ranked Tigers return to the Plains this Saturday, November 9 as they take on No. 2 Texas A&M. The SEC rivalry match up is set to start at 11 a.m. CT at the Auburn University Equestrian Center and admission is free.
