AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn freshmen Nickson Chebii and Brenda Jepchirchir will compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener Saturday, December 7 at the Boston Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Chebii and Jepchirchir will compete in the 5000m, with the former running at 5:25 p.m. CT and the latter at 8 p.m. CT.
After a historic cross country season, Jepchirchir will make her indoor season debut. She competed in five meets for the Tiger, earning SEC Women’s Runner of the Week, SEC Women’s Second Team, SEC Women’s All-Freshman Team, USTFCCCA All-Region honors and SEC Women’s Freshman of the Year.
She finished 21st in the women’s 6k at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last month in Madison, Wisconsin. She crossed the line at 19:51.90, ahead of 234 competitors.
Coming off a successful season, Chebii earned SEC Men’s Second Team SEC All-Freshman Team and NCAA All-Region honors. Competing in the men’s 10k, Chebii delivered a collegiate-best, finishing 66th overall with a time of 29:39.60.
During the meet, the late Sharon Colyear-Danville will be honored with a ceremony. Colyear-Danville was a two-time Olympian and Boston Hall of Fame legacy.
