BOSTON, Mass. - Auburn sophomore Nickson Chebii and freshman Brenda Jepchirchir broke school records at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Massachusetts, Saturday at the Boston Track & Tennis Center.
Chebii crossed in 13:38.16 to break Chris Fox’s time of 13:44.73 set in 1980. Racing in the third heat, he finished eighth and 36th overall in the men’s 5000m. He finished ahead of 176 other competitors.
Jepchirchir, racing in her first collegiate 5000m, ran a 15:35.36 to break Joyce Kimeli’s previous school record of 15:37.82. The Kenyan native also broke Kimeli’s freshman record she set in 2019 (16:28.67). She placed 19th overall, beating out 161 runners.
