BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, and the sixth time this season, Auburn men's golfer Jackson Koivun has been named one of the Southeastern Conference's top players of the week, the league office announced Wednesday.
It is Koivun's third nod as SEC Freshman of the Week. He has also won SEC Golfer of the Week three times.
The rookie from Chapel Hill, North Carolina earned the honor following his first collegiate win at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate earlier in the week. He shot 70-70-69 (-1) to share medalist honors with Mats Ege of ETSU. It was his fourth consecutive finish inside the top five.
Koivun became the first true freshman in program history to earn a win in a team event since Matt Gilchrest (2013-17) took home top honors at the UK Bluegrass Invitational in 2014.
As the team's low man, he also proved to be the difference-maker in Auburn's one-shot team victory. It was the Tigers' fourth win on the year.
Next, Koivun and company return to The Plains for Auburn's lone home event of the season, the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner. Auburn University Club will host the tournament March 11-12.
Admission to the 2024 Tiger Invitational is free. Spectators are encouraged.
