AUBURN, Ala. – For the third consecutive season, Auburn softball's Maddie Penta earned All-Southeastern Conference Team honors with her Second Team selection, the league office announced Friday.
The All-SEC Teams consist of 21 student-athletes on the First Team, 21 student-athletes on the Second Team, and an 11-member All-Defensive Team. No ties were broken. Penta is just the third Tiger in program history to earn three or more All-SEC selections, joining Mary Petrie (3) and Kasey Cooper (4).
Penta made 16 appearances in SEC play, making 12 starts in the circle. She posted a 2.97 earned run average and a 1.30 WHIP. The Chesapeake City, Maryland, native tossed seven complete games, including one shutout.
The SEC strikeout leader, Penta totaled 92 against league opponents. One of her most dominating performances was an 18-strikeout effort at Ole Miss, tying the program record for most strikeouts in a single game. She held league foes to a .236 batting average.
Penta and the Tigers will learn their postseason fate on Sunday. The NCAA Selection Show airs at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
