AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn track & field travels to Bryan-College Station, Texas for the Charlie Thomas Invitational this weekend, Feb. 7-8. The meet will be held at the R.A. “Murray” Fasken Indoor Track with the women’s weight throw starting Friday at 9:30 a.m. CT.

Auburn will have a limited squad in action this weekend as the throwers make the trip to Texas for an opportunity to get comfortable with the throwing ring ahead of conference championships.

The Tigers enter the weekend fresh off a solid meet at the Bob Pollock Invitational last week in Clemson with four event wins, ten collegiate personal bests and four Auburn top 10 performances.

In the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, the men are ranked No. 25 in the country.

"We put together a pretty good set of performances," Auburn track & field head coach Leroy Burrell said. "Clemson is a familiar venue and setting for us. We put together a good meet, especially on the women’s side. There are a lot of positive things to hang our hat on, which is what we've been working hard on."

The throwers were one of the highlights of the meet, accounting for three of the four total Tiger wins.

Senior Maura Huwalt took gold in women’s weight throw for the third time in three weeks. She established a new PR of 22.27m and claimed second on Auburn’s top 10 list. Her mark ranked her ninth in the nation and second in the SEC.

Also taking the ring in weight throw, senior Adrienne Adams finished second with a collegiate best mark of 20m.

On the men’s side of weight throw, senior Kyle Brown, junior John Leonard and senior Kyle Moison finished second (21.84m), third (20.56m) and fourth (20.28m), respectively. Brown’s throw placed him fifth in the conference.

Auburn swept the shot put titles on the men’s and women’s side with juniors Matthew Rueff and Megan Hague. Rueff’s toss of 18.18m was good enough for first and Hague claimed gold with a mark of 16.41m.

Battling it out against Auburn this weekend will be NR/No.19 Baylor, Mississippi State, SMU, NR/No. 22 TCU, Houston and the host No. 2/8 Texas A&M.

“We’re in pretty good position going into the pre championship portion of the season,” Burrell said. “I’m excited about where the team stands right now. We’re in a good spot.”
