BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Two Auburn Tigers will head to attend the SEC Student-Athletic Leadership Council annual meetings, Feb. 7-8 in Birmingham. Auburn’s delegation includes Track and Field’s Carson Bedics and Volleyball’s Peyton Dunn.
“I’m incredibly excited to represent Auburn and connect with student-athletes from across the SEC this weekend,” said Dunn. “It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other and share our experiences.
“Being able to make my voice heard is important because we, as student-athletes, bring unique perspectives that can help shape the future of the conference and make the student-athlete experience the best it can possibly be. As a female student-athlete, I hope to see the SEC continue to value and inspire future female athletes.”
Attendees feature 28 invitees from all 16 SEC universities. This meeting will give student-athletes a chance to connect with campus leaders and conference staff.
“This opportunity means so much to me,” Bedics said. “I look forward to meeting with many of the SEC executives that I met with on the SEC Career Tour. I’m excited to represent the university and track program alongside other driven student-athletes from across the conference.”
“It’s incredibly important for student-athletes to communicate their experiences and engage with their conference and institutions. Our experiences with successes and shortcomings in addition to future recommendations and concerns are especially insightful, considering the dynamic climate of the NIL, scholarships and roster restructuring.”
In addition to the Student-Athlete Leadership Councils for football and men’s and women’s basketball, SAAC serves as a vital communication channel to the conference office, addressing matters related to the student-athlete experience, well-being, and playing rules. A joint meeting of SAAC and leadership council members is held in the summer.
Among the key agenda items, both Bedics and Dunn will feature in a conversation with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, a presentation to equip student-athletes with strategies to handle conflicts, a review of NCAA and SEC legislative items, and a discussion on SAAC campus programming.
