AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn’s Alice Battesti has been awarded SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Auburn freshman had a perfect weekend for the Tigers with two singles wins and a doubles victory during the team’s successful homestand against No. 15 Vanderbilt and Missouri, including the match clinching win against the Commodores.

On Friday against Vanderbilt, Battesti won her opening set at the No. 6 position before Amy Stevens forced a third set. In the decisive third set, Stevens took an early 2-1 lead before Battesti took the momentum by earning a break on a deciding point in the next game. The freshman then won each of the next four games and prevailed on a deciding point to win her match 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

On Sunday against Missouri, Battesti joined Maria Garcia for the first time this season in doubles and did not allow a game in their match against Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar, winning 6-0 to help secure the doubles point.

Battesti also picked up her second singles win of the weekend with a straight set win over Missouri’s Sarah Hartel at the No. 6 singles position. The Auburn freshman won 6-1, 6-3 for her 13th overall singles win of the season and her fourth in SEC play.

Battesti is the second Tiger to earn a weekly honor from the conference, joining Angella Okutoyi who was named SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 5.

Battesti and the Tigers will return to action on Friday at 11 a.m. for a home match against No. 10 Oklahoma. Attendance to the match at the Yarbrough Tennis Center will be free while live video and scoring will be available online at AuburnTigers.com.
