HILTON HEAD, S.C. – No. 20 Auburn braced the rainy and windy conditions at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Tuesday to card a second round 291 (+7). The Tigers did not move on the team leaderboard from the end of round one and remain in eighth place at 17-over for the tournament (585).
“Tale of two nines,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. “We started out like gangbusters on the front nine, then ran into wind and rain. We just lost some focus during that tough stretch of holes. Just have to get ready for tomorrow, which calls for rain and high winds. We will learn from today and play tough until the end!”
No. 2 Arkansas and No. 5 South Carolina are the event’s co-leaders through two rounds, both at 5-over for the tournament (573).
Redshirt junior Carys Worby remained in the individual top 10 through 36-holes, finishing the day in a tie for seventh. Worby followed up an opening round 70 (-1) with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday that featured a couple of birdies. Worby is three shots behind the tournament’s individual leader, Kendall Todd of Arkansas.
Balma Dávalos improved four strokes from her opening round with a second round 73 (+1). Her 36-hole score of 148 (+6) places her in a tie for 30th place individually.
Sophomore Anna Davis bounced back from a difficult opening round by carding a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. Davis’ round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 3 at Long Cove Club. Davis is tied for 37th place on the individual leaderboard at 7-over for the event (149). Davis and Worby each hold a par-5 scoring average of 3-under so far in the event, which is tied with three other players for the best mark in the field.
Katie Cranston provided Auburn with its final counting score of the day, a 74 (+3). Cranston started her round hot, recording birdies on each of her first two holes of the day and made the turn at 1-under.
