AUBURN, Ala. – No. 20 Women’s golf finished the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in a tie for eighth place out of 17 teams at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Tuesday. Redshirt junior Carys Worby finished the event inside the individual top 10 at 2-over (215).
“So happy for Carys for putting three solid rounds together for a great finish in a stacked field,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the final round. “As a team, we struggled with too many big numbers today. We did have a lot of elements with sideways rain and wind, but no excuse for multiple doubles which killed our team score and finish. Ironically, I feel as though we are close to having things come together as a team. Several bright spots individually and when we put it all together, we can win any tournament with any field.”
Auburn shot 15-over (299) in the final round that featured a brief suspension for weather and 32-over for the tournament (884). No. 5 South Carolina and No. 22 LSU tied at the top of the team leaderboard at 11-over through three rounds (863) and LSU prevailed in the tiebreaker of non-counting scores.
Worby fired a 1-over 72 in Tuesday’s final round, which featured three birdies. The finish marked Worby’s best individual finish of the season and the second top 10 of her career. The Auburn redshirt junior carded nine birdies over 54 holes at Long Cove Club, which was three shy of the best mark in the field.
Balma Dávalos and Anna Davis both finished the tournament in a tie for 33rd place at 10-over (223). Davis carded a final round 74 (+3) while Dávalos shot 4-over (75) on Tuesday. Worby and Davis led the field in par-5 scoring over the course of all three rounds, as they each played them at 4-under.
Katie Cranston provided the final counting score of the day for Auburn, a 78 (+7). She finished in a tie for 61st place individually at 15-over for the event (228).
Up next, the Tigers will travel back to the Palmetto State for the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play. The tournament will be played March 17-18 at Old Barnwell Club in Aiken, South Carolina.
