BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Auburn soccer alum Carly Thatcher was named Auburn’s female nominee for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, the league office announced Thursday.

“I am honored to be selected as Auburn’s female nominee,” Thatcher said. “It represents years of dedication both in the classroom and on the field as well as the unwavering support of my coaches, teammates and professors. Auburn has given me so many opportunities to grow as a student-athlete, and I am inspired to continue striving for excellence in the next stages of life.”

Mason Mathias of swimming & diving was named Auburn’s male nominee.

The McWhorter Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes. Past Auburn winners include Jenifer Kleyn (1992, volleyball), Caesar Garcia (2004, swim & dive), Jordan Anderson (2010, swim & dive), Dan Mazzaferro (2011, swim & dive) and Erica Meissner (2011, swim & dive).

Thatcher left her mark on the soccer program from 2021 to 2024. While pursuing a degree biomedical sciences, the Greer, South Carolina native earned a 3.94 GPA and graduated in December of 2024 with honors. Thatcher earned SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years of her tenure and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team following the 2024 season.

On the pitch, Thatcher saw over 3,000 minutes of action in nearly 70 contests. She finished her collegiate career with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists.

During her final season on The Plains, Thatcher performed at her best, starting 19 matches as a center midfielder. She added an impressive six assists and scored three goals, one of which was a penalty kick goal, Auburn’s first in over two years, to secure a crucial point in conference play against Alabama.

As a freshman, Thatcher also became the 13th player in program history, and just the second rookie in the last 10 years, to record a hat trick as she dropped three on Alabama A&M on Sept. 9, 2021.

Thatcher was recently accepted into the University of South Carolina where she will pursue medical school.
