AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn redshirt sophomore Nicholas Heng and junior Angella Okutoyi have both been named to their respective SEC Community Service Teams for men’s and women’s tennis, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Heng was named to the SEC Men’s Tennis Community Service Team after making a difference in both his local community and his hometown community. Heng serves on the Auburn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SACC) community service committee where he has organized donations to campus food drives.
In his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, Heng also volunteered as a hitting partner for the G16 National Clay Court Championships. Last season, Heng participated in AuburnYOU’s Connect Leadership program where he received leadership training once a month and was able to apply his learning by mentoring freshman student athletes.
Okutoyi was tabbed a member of the SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team after using her platform as an African Games gold medalist to be an inspiration to others in her home nation of Kenya. Okutoyi participated in the “Be Bold, Go Gold” 5K race in her hometown of Nairobi to support children with health conditions in Kenya, including cancer.
During the offseason, she regularly hosts free tennis clinics for children in her hometown of Nairobi to promote the sport of tennis and help them begin playing the sport. Okutoyi also provides tennis clothing to underprivileged children in the Nairobi community.
