OAKMONT, Penn. – Auburn golf’s Jackson Koivun is headed to Oakmont Country Club as the sophomore gears up to compete in his first major championship at the 2025 U.S. Open, set for June 12-15 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
The newly appointed WAGR No. 1, Koivun, tees off Thursday from the 10th tee at 7:24 a.m. CT with Davis Riley and Johnny Keefer. He is one of 15 select amateurs in the field at Oakmont this week.
The Chapel Hill, North Carolina native has played in four professional events prior to this week, all on the PGA Tour. He’s made the cut in three of four, including a pair of made cuts this year at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
Koivun heads into Oakmont fresh off another remarkable season for the Tigers where he was named a First Team All-American for the second year in a row, becoming the first man in program history to do so as a freshman and a sophomore.
He led the Auburn lineup with a 69.00 stroke average, 31 rounds at or below par, 160 birdies and 10 top-10 finishes in 13 starts. Koivun increased his career win tally to five with three last season. He earned low medalist at the Inverness Intercollegiate in September, followed by the SEC Championship in April and the NCAA Auburn Regional in May.
Koivun was dubbed the back-to-back recipient of SEC Golfer of the Year after he became the first player to repeat as the tournament’s low medalist since 1976.
