LYNCHBURG, Va. – After already being announced as a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp roster Monday, Chris Rembert also earned First Team Freshman All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Rembert becomes the 21st Freshmen All-American in program history, including the sixth under head coach Butch Thompson. He is one of three position players from the Southeastern Conference and six players overall to earn first-team honors. Click here for a complete list of NCBWA Freshman All-Americans.
In 57 games and 56 starts as a freshman, Rembert ranked second on the team with a .344 average and .467 on-base percentage. He totaled 49 runs, 72 hits, 14 doubles, 10 homers and 46 RBI while turning in a .981 fielding percentage in 155 total chances at second base and right field.
Auburn’s first freshman to earn first or second team All-SEC honors since Hunter Morris in 2008, Rembert led the league with a .485 on-base percentage in SEC play and ranked third with a .376 batting average. He tied for the team lead with eight doubles in league play and ranked second in runs (28), hits (41) and home runs (six) and tied for third in RBI (22).
Hitting out of the leadoff spot in the last 21 games of the season, he hit .407 and reached base at a .486 clip, totaling 24 runs, 37 hits, seven doubles, six homers and 25 RBI during the span.
